Just Breathe

 


When we feel stressed or anxious, try this quick and easy way to calm down.

Breathe in slowly to the count of 4 through your nose.  Try releasing it slowly through your mouth to the count of 5.  Do this three times.

Feeling stressed you were in your Sympathetic Nervous system.  This Nervous system is when we are feeling stressed and in dangerous situations. (Dangerous in the way we perceive the situation.  So not necessarily dangerous.)  This Nervous system results in "Fight and/or Flight".  This can be seen in "panic."  The Sympathetic Nervous system is not meant to be lived in day-in/ day-out.  

After breathing in slowly a few times, your body is now be switched over to using your Parasympathetic Nervous system.  This Nervous system is when we feel rested and relaxed.  This is the healthier part of our Nervous systems to try and remain in day-in/ day-out.

When you feel scared/fearful, notice if you hold your breath.  Many of us stop breathing and totally focus on the fear.  This will make you more anxious/stressed, which may result in a Panic Attack.  Breathe, using slow breathes to face your fear and move on!  You are bigger than any fear.

I created this blog for my Reiki clients originally.  Combining these tools with Reiki creates a happy, healthy person.  These tools, when used alone are also beneficial!
