Alternatives for Dogs
I own a beautiful, young 7 year old dog.
She has sensitivities and so I've learned to use alternative healing and alternatives to medications for her.
- Pain and anxiety
- Inflammation
- Dog incontinence
The urine leakage was like being in late menopause- not enough estrogen in the body to tighten up her organs down there.
I opted out of the medication option.
I knew from past experience that freshly ground Flax seeds added in the diet adds estrogen to body in the form of Phytoestrogens (plant estrogen).
I also knew, from having a young acquaintance that used to take this everyday for months, it can affect a woman's hormonal balance. In this case, this young woman had to get off of Flax seed/ too much estrogen!
And so, I started to add 1 T. of freshly (needs to be ground fresh each time you use it for proper effectiveness.) ground brown Flax seed to her food. I added this once a day.
After a few days or so, her leaking stopped. I kept her on this for maybe a month. Her leaking never started up again.
Easy and healthy fix!
- Shampooing
Now, if many people's cosmetics are toxic, what about dogs?
Toxic chemicals can create skin issues to sensitive dogs. Does your dog have allergies? Sensitives? Do they break out in rashes and dry skin?
I started using Dr. Bronner's Castile soap for my dog 6 years ago.
This is a natural product that is made up of oils.
I like to use the Lavender essential oil Castile soap.
Lavender helps to:
- Calm the dog.
- Anti-inflammatory for skin. Stops breakouts and heals the skin.
- Repels lice, fleas, and ticks.
I use this solution to shampoo my dog.
It's not too strong for her nose. And the castile soap leaves my dogs hair silky smooth and clean.
Better yet, no side effects or harsh chemicals that causes her to break out or have any other health issues.
- Feeling sick/ Upset stomach.
The vinegar helps her to feel better within 30 minutes or so. The apple sauce is just a way to get her to take the vinegar.
- Ear itchiness
Antibiotics have their place, but I knew there should be something better then overusing antibiotics.
Antibiotics tend to disrupt our bodies in more than one way. The antibiotics will kill off the "not so good bacteria" but they also will kill off all the good bacteria as well. When the pet is off of the antibiotic, the bacteria that is in the majority will take over.
It's similar to using Roundup on weeds. It doesn't only kill the weeds, but also everything around it. If you do not plant the plants you want to grow, soon the weeds will start to grow again taking over.
Thus, the first signs of my dog having this problem, I will use a salt water to clean her ear. At times, I will also use a wax remover to clean her ear. I then will "reseed" her body with a human probiotic pill.
I place a bit of peanut butter on it so she will not try to chew it. She will swallow it whole.
The probiotic has a prebiotic in it as well. Thus, this "good bacteria" pill will reseed her body with "good bacteria" that will kick butt on any yeasts and "not so good" bacteria. Yeasts are opportunistic "bugs" that will grow wherever there is oxygen, food (sugar) and lack of good bacteria to keep it at bay.
Yeasts are naturally on the body including "not so good bacteria" and good bacteria.
When our bodies go out of balance, in this case the microorganisms are out of balance, the opportunistic bug will take over along with, at times, the "not so good bacteria."
Another helpful tip is to look at the dog's diet/food. Dog food should not have sugar in it. Many dog foods are made with refined grains. (white rice instead of the whole rice grain.) These refined grains enter the body and are turned into "sugar" in the body very quickly due to the lack of fiber and fat to slow it down. It's hard to find a quality dog food, but it is worth taking a look at the food you feed and the treats you give to your dog.
